Lenn Roberson was raised in Northampton County of N.C. She was always fascinated with Sir Archie, known as the “Foundation Sire of the American Thoroughbred.” He and Janus, one of the earliest imported thoroughbreds ruled the history of the area. These factors led to the author’s interest in local history, as well as a passion for horses. She owned and rode a horse that was a direct descendant of Janus. With a background in nursing, she has worked with many elements from her novel, including disabled children and battered women. She grew up boating and swimming in the Roanoke, named by the Native Americans as the "river of death.” She had the delicious experience of living in an old Southern mansion which was said to be haunted and hearing things go bump in the night. Roberson has been active with the Halifax County Horse Council and 4-H. Her family hosts an annual equine-centered event which has raised over $200,000.00 for patients facing a medical crisis. She cofounded the Roanoke Valley Writer’s Group and started the Rainbow Readers Literacy Program. She has published magazine articles and enjoys writing stories with rich local atmosphere and historical details
